As you know, at one time we had five partners in the company. I was the one who had the ultimate control because of my percentage of ownershlp, however, I always treated everyone as equals on the team and included all of you on every significant decision we ever made.
In addition, I purposely gave all of you more equity units than you deserved in the beginning and many more units over time without ever asking for anything from you. I did this so that everyone felt a part of the company and was motivated when we ultlimately sold it.
I also made sure that I was the lowest paid member of the management team. Furthermore, I never took one penny of distribution. Instead, I used every penny to fund the company's growth, so that we could become successful.
My objective was always to build a great company that would reward everyone. I am very proud to say that we accomplished that at Shift4.
All of you at one time told me that you would always have my back no matter what. That you always had "brotherly love" for me. Unfortunately, my experlence over the past few years has shown that to be completely untrue.
I know that it is hard to be loyal to someone who is not running the company and you have your own careers and lives to worry about.
I also know that it's very difficult to deal with a person like me who suffers from Bi- Polar, especially when I am in my manic phase. I completely get that. It's not your fault, it's my fault.
However, that does not change the fact that the people whom I always treated openly , honestly, and with complete integrity have abandoned me.
I will never forget that.
